For the past 25 years the Acoustical Society of America’s Education in Acoustics committee (EdCom) has hosted a hands-on demonstration session for middle and high school students. These demonstrations are led by members of the Society who introduce students to the exciting world of acoustics. The session includes a hands-on tutorial, interactive demonstrations, and a panel discussion about careers in acoustics.
Typically, nearly fifty students from a local school attend the session. ASA provides a pizza lunch as well as paying for bus transportation to and from the meeting location. This is one of the EdCom’s longest-running and most successful programs,
The primary goals of this session are to…
- expose young people to opportunities in science and engineering.
- provide students with an opportunity to interact with professionals in many areas of acoustics.
