Two Age Categories
Entries can be submitted by individual students or by groups of students. Groups can be from within a class or a whole class. Competition and submission details in the following link: IYS-2020_Competition-Regulations
Primary and Middle School
Competition for students ages 5 to 12 years old – Students are asked to produce hand-made drawings, pictures, patchworks, collages and similar, related to their world of sounds, inspired by the the motto of IYS2020 “Importance of Sound for Society and the World” and, possibly, by melody and refrain of the song “The Sound Of The World”.
Competition for students aged 13 to 18 years old – Students are asked to write a stanza of 4 verses in mother tongue and/or in English, inspired by the melody and the refrain of the song “The Sound Of The World” as well as by the motto of IYS2020 “Importance of Sound for Society and the World”.
The Acoustical Society of America (ASA) will award cash prizes to US Finalists!
US participants must send submissions to email@example.com. Each scanned entry must be in submitted in PDF format and A4 dimension for primary and middle school submissions, together with the Participant Form filled with data and a short description (max 50 words) of the item. The size of each submitted file must not exceed 5 MB.
The Sound of the World
The song “The Sound Of The World” is now available. This is a professional version of the song in which the refrain and an example of stanza are played and sung by a band. Visit https://sound2020.org/society/student-competition/ to download different versions of the song.
The following documents contain music, lyrics and chords of the refrain and of a stanza that has been written as an example for students to guide them in writing their stanzas.

- ASA selects three US finalists in each category, awarded as National winners by 31 May 2021
- Evaluation from Expert Jury and Web Jury will take place from 1 June 2021 to 15 July 2021
- International Winners will be announced by 15 September 2021
