The Acoustical Society of America’s Education in Acoustics committee (EdCom) has hosted a hands-on acoustics demonstration session for middle and high school students for the past 25 years. These acoustics demonstrations are led by members of the Society who introduce students to the exciting world of acoustics. The session includes a hands-on tutorial, interactive demonstrations, and a panel discussion about careers in acoustics.
About fifty students from a local school are invited to attend this acoustics demonstration session. ASA provides a pizza lunch and pays for bus transportation to and from the meeting location. This is one of the EdCom’s longest-running and most successful programs,
The primary goals of this session are to…
- expose young people to opportunities in science and engineering.
- provide students with an opportunity to interact with professionals in many areas of acoustics.
Bring acoustics demonstrations into the classroom
Since we can’t be everyone all at once, we invite educators to bring acoustics to their students! Check out our Educator Resources, like the ASA Teacher Activity Kit, which includes lesson plans and tools.
There are even more lesson plans in The Acoustics Collection, created in collaboration with the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT).
