The Graduate Program in Acoustics offers four degree options for graduate study in acoustics: M.Eng., M.S. (1-year, non-thesis), M.S. (traditional thesis), and Ph.D. in Acoustics. As the only institution in the U.S. to offer a Ph.D. in Acoustics, we offer more than 20 courses in acoustics at the graduate level. Our faculty and students conduct research in just about every area of acoustics including: noise and vibration control, architectural acoustics, biomedical ultrasound, transducer design (loudspeakers, microphones, hydrophones), signal processing and data analysis, underwater acoustics, aerodynamic noise, outdoor propagation of sound, nonlinear acoustics, and computational acoustics, structural acoustics and vibration, metamaterials, infrasound, and many more areas. In addition to our resident graduate programs, we also offer the M.Eng. in Acoustics degree entirely online through our distance education program.
Funding is available from the Acoustical Society of America through a program of fellowships, scholarships, prizes, grants, and student and young professional awards.
There are also funding opportunities that are offered in connection with meetings of the Society including Student Travel Grants, Best Paper Awards for Students and Young Presenters, Young Investigator Travel Grants and Dependent Care Subsidies.
The Committee on International Research and Education oversees the International Student Grants program as well as sponsorship of Specialty Symposia in Acoustics.
